INDUSTRY TRENDS
1. Your website describes you as someone who can anticipate trends before they happen. How does this forward-thinking instinct shape your day-to-day work and has it ever surprised even you?
That’s really nice to hear but to be honest with you I don't really focus on trends. I try to focus and push myself to try to create newness for my clients by researching styles that they’ve never worn before and create newness that way. It’s always nice to push our creative boundaries and find inspiration through art, history and your everyday surroundings. It's all there! The key is to never be afraid to try something new or whatever feels new to you and do it in your own way.
PHILOSOPHY & CONTINUING EDUCATION
2. You've spoken openly about being largely self-taught. What role do you believe continuing education plays in a hairstylist's career and does that belief inform how you've designed your upcoming masterclass?
Yes, a lot of my techniques are self taught but I do believe that it’s nothing new. I’m sure someone in this world is doing it the same way I’m doing it. I created my techniques through thinking outside of the box and thinking about how I can do it cleaner, faster or better and constantly testing! This is how you stay technically advanced. I also think it's important to share knowledge and to help each other grow. I never had a mentor at the beginning of my career, that's why I taught myself my own techniques. My skill set throughout the years has brought me to places and connected me to people I could have never imagined. I also think it can be incredibly beneficial for people who work in salons or any hairstylists who want to expand their technical knowledge. Its how you become better.
THE MASTERCLASS
3. What is the imprint you would like to leave on the attendees of your masterclass at L'Endroit? A technique, a mindset, an approach or something harder to name?
I would definitely have to say a mindset. Without having the right mindset there is no growth. You have to be disciplined and you have to want it. It’s all in us, it just has to be sparked and be re-inspired.
4. How will that imprint be transmitted throughout the class? Are there specific exercises, moments, or methods you've built in with that intention in mind?
I think everything they will learn from the masterclass will be impactful for everyone. The intention is to inspire and get everyone excited about thinking outside of the box and becoming better at what we do. This is my intention, to create a class that gets people excited and for them to see the true magic in our industry.
THE SPACE & THE EXPERIENCE
5. Do you believe that the location — L'Endroit's space — plays a role in how this imprint is transmitted? And what does that environment ultimately offer someone who walks through the door?
Space is always important when it comes to creating and getting inspired. You’re environment will either drain you and give you energy. I truly do believe this. L'Endroit is perfect for my class cause its open, welcoming and has a positive flow and energy to it. It truly is a great space to create and get inspired.
