For this second interview, we welcome an artist whose approach goes far beyond technique. Lyette Bélanger's work speaks of sensitivity, intuition, and the ability to see what others haven't yet noticed. Where some execute, she interprets. Where we seek answers, she asks questions.

On April 13th, she will come to share more than just methods; she'll share a way of living her profession, connecting with hair, and most importantly, with the human behind each head.

Before discovering her in person, we wanted to give her the space to express herself, in her own way.

Trends & Vision

You both have been working in cutting and styling for many years. How does your interpretation of trends influence your daily work, and has it ever surprised you yourselves?

For me, trends are unique to each person; I start with my clients' tastes and inspirations, and then I add a touch of modernism.

When a client mentions the names of cuts they've seen on Instagram or TikTok, it takes me by surprise. For me, it's like putting the art of a cut in a straitjacket, which irks me a bit 🤪

Philosophy & Continuing Education

You both have a very personal relationship with learning and sharing knowledge. What importance do you place on continuing education in a hairdresser's career, and how has this conviction influenced the way you both designed this masterclass?

Continuing education is crucial for our careers.

It determines if you stand out, improve yourself, feel proud of yourself, stay motivated daily, and allows you to create.

I personally do it once a year in London; it's been 40 years, and each time it makes me euphoric, my head filled with ideas, and I so wish all hairdressers could experience that.

Sandy and I put ourselves in the shoes of hairdressers, thinking about what they would want to see this season, the techniques we want to present versus what a hairdresser can reproduce behind their chair without restricting our creativity, stepping a little out of our and their comfort zones.

The Masterclass & Collaboration

Joining forces for a single day is a strong decision. What does this collaboration allow you to offer that each of you couldn't have provided alone, and how do your visions complement each other?

We've been thinking about doing a presentation together for a long time because when we get together to brainstorm, it's always magical, easy, and creative.

We embark on incredible waves of ideas; it makes me vibrate every time, so we want to recreate that by sharing with hairdressers and enveloping them in our universes.

The masterclass: Beyond cutting and styling techniques, what impact would you like to leave on the participants of your day at L’endroit Suite 202 – a way of seeing, an instinct, something harder to define?

Our universes complement each other perfectly.

Both our brains are bubbling with cutting techniques.

Sandy feels the material…

I am technical…

Sandy sees the magic…

I see the practical side…

But when we are together, it's as if I become her and she becomes me.

That's how I feel it!

Transmission

Are there any exercises, moments, or methods you specifically built together to easily transmit this impact?

I would like this masterclass to make participants want to work in a team, be more curious, not be afraid to ask questions, be super inspired, and simply be happy to do this beautiful profession.

I think being two will facilitate learning, because of our two ways of doing and saying things.

I think that seeking ease is not always the solution; sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone to advance, and that's why there will be two of us to accompany them in the joy of learning.

The Space & the Experience

Does the location where a training takes place change anything about how people learn and leave transformed? And what do you think L’endroit Suite 202 offers to someone who walks through its doors?

I think the aesthetics, the light, and the accessibility of a place are conducive to learning.

Having been there only once, I felt a sense of well-being, so I think L’endroit Suite 202 is an intimate, comforting, and comfortable place to learn.
